Kathleen McHugh

I get so much happiness and satisfaction from helping others move past anxiety, depression, trauma and loss. For some, these feelings are frustrating and bothersome. For others, the feelings are so crippling it's hard to make it through the day. It's important to know that you don't have to live this way.

My Services

Dr. McHugh provides therapy to individuals dealing with a wide variety of psychological issues. She helps children age 7 and up, adolescents and adults.

Sadness is a normal human emotion -- everyone feels down at one time or another. But when sadness becomes significant, depression may be present. If you are experiencing certain symptoms -- and those symptoms are frequent and severe -- it may be a depressive disorder.

Dr. McHugh uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you manage and reduce your anxiety. You'll discuss the connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and learn effective coping strategies to change negative patterns.

Dr. McHugh has extensive training and experience providing treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, including cognitive-behavioral techniques and exposure and response prevention. She has a particular passion for helping children overcome OCD.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder may follow a traumatic event that involved a death, serious injury or threat to your physical well-being or the well-being of another. PTSD involves feelings of intense fear, helplessness or horror. In children, the reaction may be disorganized or agitated behavior.

Dr. McHugh has experience working with LGBTQ individuals and can offer caring  support and assistance in areas of your life that you may find challenging.

If you have experienced abuse or trauma as a child or as an adult, it may have an effect on your thoughts about yourself, your relationships with others, and your effectiveness at work or within your family.

Psychological testing is sometimes used to help diagnose psychological disorders. In addition to helping clients find answers,

Dr. McHugh also performs psychological evaluations for forensic purposes, such as competency, psychological injury, and criminal mitigation.
